MMA is an acronym for for Mixed Martial Arts. The sport of MMA is a modern branch of combat sports in which 2 fighters compete to victory. Different MMA leagues have different sets of rules, but generally speaking the rules are no eye gouging, biting, or groin shots. The sport of MMA is popular around the world with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) being the most successful and prominent by a longshot.

MMA is one of the fastest growing sports in the world and surpassed boxing in popularity in the late 2000s. The sport of MMA is also a new style of martial arts which has evolved over the last 25 years with global growth of the sport and is a hybrid martial art which consists of boxing, kickboxing, judo, jiu-jitsu, and wrestling.
